This fully-online, 8-hour training gives long-term caregivers in Washington State the option to earn a training certificate for free that fulfills requirements for Mental Health Specialty Training (WAC 388-112A-0450). Caregivers still have the option to earn a certificate through a community instructor for a fee.
The training curriculum includes the following modules and a challenge exam:
Module 1: Introduction to Mental Disorders
Module 2: Caregiving for Individuals with Mental Disorders
Module 3: Suicide Prevention
Module 4: Respectful Communication
Module 5: Creative Approaches for Challenging Behaviors
Development of these courses included creating mind maps, reviewing and revising existing instructor-led training content for plain language and reading level, creating a script, developing art/icons, recording and editing audio narration, research, developing the exam, accessibility and testing, peer and CE reviews, piloting with learners, and working with translated transcripts, as well as creating a custom eLearning template for use in developing future specialty training courses.
